The area situated between south of Oban and north of Kintyre is commonly known as Mid-Argyll that extends past the offshore 'whisky isles' of Islay and Jura, pointing southwards into the remote Kintyre Peninsula where rolling hills protect the Isle of Arran from the wrath of the Atlantic Ocean. Packed with history, winding roads take visitors on a journey past attractive sea lochs and huge forests, revealing at Kilmartin Glen one of Europe's most important prehistoric sites.
Mull of Kintyre is the lonely tip, a stone's throw from Northern Ireland. On the other side of Loch Fyne is the walking haven and giant claw of Cowal Peninsula, looking as if it's about to crush in its grasp the aptly named Isle of Bute, home of one of Scotland's most fantastical stately homes.
