Balvaird Castle

INteresting and very complete tower house in the Ochils in central Scotland. Open to public on exterior only and historically very satisfying.

By the A912 north of Gateside with a small car park next to the road. Perched atop a hill, this is a L plan tower house of 1500 with a later gatehouse from 1581. The inside has somewhat capricious opening hours, but the outside is charming and worth a visit. The previous owners, the Earls of Mansfield left it for Scone Palace. (Lucky them!)

Opening Times

Exterior view is available only. In the summer, the interior is open at the weekends.
