Watson

The sons of Watt, a diminutive of Walter, held land in Edinburgh in the fourteenth century. Thomas Watson of Stenhous sat on an inquest held at Dunipace near Falkirk in 1426. Sir Donald Watsone is recorded in the records of diocese of Moray in 1493. Thomas Watson of Cupar in Fife was the ancestor of Sir John Watson who was created a baronet in 1895. The third Baronet was killed in the First World War, serving with the 16th Lancers in 1918. He was succeeded by his brother. George Watson was sheriff of Wigtownshire from 1891 to 1925. His son, James, also a lawyer, was town clerk of Nairobi from 1911–1926. George Watson’s College in Edinburgh is one of the capital’s leading schools.
