Warmed by the Gulf Stream, the area has many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens (NT) and the Logan Botanical gardens near Port Patrick, as well as historical sites and castles to visit. The Solway Coast has many extensive sandy beaches and rocky coves to explore, with many traditional fishing villages and harbour ports. Kirkcudbright, the artists’ town, has art galleries, antique shops, museums and shops, while Castle Douglas, Scotland’s Food Town, is a traditional market town with many local foods available.
