Property Reference: SAAO Sleeps: 4 Week rental Starts: Saturday

Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, these two beautiful adjoining period stone cottages are situated in secluded Glen Lethnot - an unspoilt Angus glen. A great sense of peace is felt here among the green slopes and heather clad hills, nestling behind the two Iron Age Hill Forts - the Brown and White Caterthuns. Although in a wonderfully rural setting, these two refurbished holiday cottages are just 5 miles from the village of Edzell with its selection of shops, tearooms and parks. Excellent walks, with an abundance of wildlife, abound from the doorstep, or slightly further afield at Glen Prosen, Clova, Glen Isla and Glen Esk. Numerous golf courses are within a short drive and this, coupled with excellent beaches at St Cyrus and Montrose, make it an ideal spot for couples or families. The house also features an attractive garden with access through to the woods beyond. The Victorian Heritage Trail through Fettercairn to Braemar passes through some gorgeous scenery, and there are numerous castles and stately homes to visit. The Distillery at Fettercairn is of note for whisky lovers, whilst the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful area can just simply be enjoyed. Fishing, stalking, horse riding and golf are nearby and can be arranged on request. Shops 5 miles.

Note: West Balfield Cottage (SAAN) and East Balfield Cottage (SAAO) can be booked together to sleep 8+2 people

Customer Reviews of East Balfield Cottage, Angus, sleeps 4/5

st comment: Beautiful location with stunning views. Lovely accommodation with everything we needed and more. April 2012.

nd comment: We thought the cottage was lovely, so thoughtful was the welcome bottle of wine, juice and biscuits. Lovely and warm and cosy. The area was a wee bit remote for me, but still enjoyed the weekend stay. Feb 2012.

rd comment: East Balfield Cottage is well furnished and equipped and the heating is extremely efficient, an absolute essential if you visit in November and the weather is foul! We were pleasantly surprised to find a good range of shops in Edzell - 4.5 miles back down the glen - and the bread from the bakery at the Mace shop was outstanding. We did manage a couple of decent walks, despite the weather, and visits to Edzell and Glamis Cstles are a must. As the National Trust for Scotland shuts up shop in almost all its properties at the end of October, we can’t comment on any of them. We’d love to go back to East Balfield when the weather’s better. Nov 2011.

th comment: Very comfortable well equipped cottage in a peaceful location. Good base for sightseeing, walking etc. with beaches a little distance away. Safe garden for children. Several eating places within an easy drive. June 2011.

th comment: Amazing - a must visit cottage. April 2011.

th comment: Lovely cottage tastefully furnished. Aug 2010.

th comment: Spacious, excellent facilities, clean and thoughtfully presented. Excellent location - peaceful but accessible. May 2010.

th comment: It was well equipped, clean and tidy. March 2010.

th comment: Well equipped cottage, good central heating, nice comfy layout which was modern but still in keeping with the age and style of the cottage. Oct 2009.

th comment: Rural location yet in easy reach of neighbouring towns. Homely and comfortable accommodation. Surrounded by walks and wildlife on the door step. Oct 2009.

th Comment Very clean and well equipped. Lovely and warm even without the open fire. Quiet location. Good information available at the property regarding local attractions. Oct 2009.

th Comment Very well equipped property, lovely garden for small children. July 2009.

th Comment Such a lovely cottage, warm welcome in the form of wine and cake! Really good location. Aug 2009.

th Comment A proper home from home. We were delighted when cooking, having forgot basics like flour to find the cupboards stocked with these items. Well done. Aug 2008.

th Comment This is a lovely cottage in a quiet but accessible location, with a very attractive view to the front. Brechin is only fifteen minutes away, and there is wonderful walking country all round. July 2007.

th Comment This was one of the nicest cottages we have ever stayed in. The children enjoyed playing in the woods behind the cottage. The beaches at Lunan Bay and St Cyrus are beautiful - the cleanest sand and water, although the water is a little chilly!! We would definitely stay here again. Aug 2006.
