Situated on the Scottish Borders, not far from Gretna, lies the elegant mansion of Springkell with extensive landscaped gardens. Built for the Maxwell family, proprietors of the Barony of Kirkconnel and Springkell since 1610, the original Georgian centre of the house was erected in 1730 and the house and stables were extended in 1830. These two holiday cottages (SQQY and SRRA), situated in the grounds of Springkell Estate, have been renovated to a high standard and offer a peaceful retreat. Ideally located to explore the beauty of Dumfries and Galloway and Scotland’s Border country - a land of peace and tranquillity, steeped in history, with imposing castles, elegant abbeys, stately mansions and dramatic ruins. Picturesque towns and villages are set in a landscape of rolling hills, wild moorland and meandering rivers. Ramble the moors and hills, discover the unspoilt coastline, fish the rivers and lochans, ride the bridleways, play the fairways or take a mountain bike challenge. Visit the various museums, workshops and galleries. The historic cities of Edinburgh and Carlisle and cosmopolitan Glasgow are easily reached within an hour. Shops and pubs 1 to 4 miles.

Customer Reviews of Kennel Cottage, nr Gretna Green - Sleeps 4
1st comment: A stunning cottage in a stunning location, just the place to re-charge one’s batteries! March 2012.
2nd comment: Beautiful cottage, more matches would’ve been helpful. Excellent facilities for children and babies. Would go back. Feb 2012.
3rd comment: It was lovely, quiet and relaxing, out of the way but not remote. The property had everything we needed and nicely presented. It was fantastic to walk out of the cottage and onto the grounds of such a beautiful house and well kept estate, acres of space to walk with our dog. There is no internet or phone signal at the property but this just made it more appealling to us. Feb 2012.
4th comment: A delightful cottage with a very high standard of furnishings. Peaceful exclusive location on a country estate, yet only 5 mins from the motorway. Very well equipped and a stone’s throw from shopping at Gretna, tourist attractions, castles and the sea. We highly recommend a break at Kennel Cottage. Oct 2011.
