Welcome to Fossoway (Pop. 1,624 Feb. 2008)
(The un-official website of Fossoway & District Community Council)

Fossoway Gathering.

....Fossoway is situated to the south west of Kinross and comprises the villages of Carnbo,Crook of Devon, Drum, Rumbling Bridge, Powmill and Blairingone.

....Fossoway is the name adopted by the local community council namely "Fossoway and District Community Council" (click for the minutes of the last meeting & links to other Community Councils). Community Councils serve a very useful function in Scotland in representing the local people's concerns to the larger Councils (in this case Perth & Kinross Council) & other corporate bodies having an effect on the local environment, they are also statutory consultees on local planning and licensing applications.
....The Parish of Fossoway was combined with the parish of Tullibole which is one of the oldest parishes in Scotland; records show that it was in existence before 1574. In 1614 the parishes were combined when the church at Tullibole was abandonded. In fact it is said that the church yard was used, in the 17th century, by a coven of witches, 11 of which were burned at the stake in the village of the Crook of Devon. The name 'Fossoway' is thought to originate from the Gaelic fasach-fheidh" meaning "The Desert of the Deer".
....If you wanted to take up the noble profession of "Begging", in Fossoway, you would need to obtain a license from the local
minister in the form of a talisman or emblem.
