Putting: Is it an art or a science?

Read half a dozen books about putting and you'll have advice on half a dozen different ways of putting, it's confusing to say the least. You have the in-line shoulder stroke, the in to in shoulder stroke and putting gurus such as Dave Stockton that advocate a forward press and a more wristy action in the back swing. These methods all work but you have to be the judge of what works best for you.

The fundamentals remain the same though, you must have a solid base and a minimal amount of knee movement, you must have a square putterface at address and the putterhead must be square at impact. Eye position is preferably directly over the ball. Only you can be the judge of whether you putt better with the small muscles of the wrists and fingers or with the large muscles of the shoulders.
