The hotel is located in the centre of Tongue, next door to the Royal Bank of and it is only a short stroll to the post office and shop and a few minutes from the general store and petrol station.

The hotel enjoys outstanding views out over the unspoiled Sutherland landscape and is the perfect place from which to explore the northern highlands. From here you can witness the difference between the 'flow country' of Caithness with its sweeping landscapes and open skies and the rugged scenery with spectacular mountains and glens that typifies so much of north Sutherland.

So if you are looking for a place to rest your head for the night after the long journey north or a base for a longer holiday in the area then the Ben Loyal will offer you a sanctuary from the stresses and strains of modern living.   We are open from 1st March to 29th November.   All enquiries will be answered during the period that the hotel is closed.

Both the public areas of the hotel and the bedrooms are non-smoking. Weather permitting guests are welcome to smoke in the hotel garden and enjoy the wonderful view at the same time. If it is raining then there is a nothing more to be done than stand outside with an umbrella!

Pets are welcome at the Ben. We have our own dog and cat. The dog is an enormous white and black cocker spaniel called Jasper and occasionally our 20 year old cat called Beanie can be found snoozing in the sun. Both love to have a fuss made of them, particularly Jasper who will lie on his back for you to have his tummy rubbed until the cows come home!

To give you an indication of the local weather we have included this link for you to check the weather.   Unfortunately there is no weather station in Tongue but the forecast for Durness (30 miles to our west) is reasonably representative of the weather in Tongue.
