Rural Housing Service Annual Conference 2009

26/27 February 2009

The Birnam Institute, Birnam, By Dunkeld

The Rural Housing Service Annual Conference will take place on the 26 & 27th February 2009 at The Birnam Institute, Dunkeld.

This year the conference will focus on housing finance - how we deliver affordable rural housing in a time of constraint in funding from government and finance from the private sector.

John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth has been invited to give the keynote speech to the conference and Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Convener of the Rural Affairs and Environment Committee asked to outline the findings of the recent Rural Housing Inquiry undertaken by the Committee.

The workshop sessions will examine a range of crucial issues in delivering affordable rural housing such as the impact of HAG reform, new funding models, the Rural Homes for Rent pilot, local occupancy conditions, community engagement, modernising the planning system, and community energy.

The main Conference programme will take place on Friday 27th February at the Birnam Institute. The Conference begins on Thursday 26th February 2009 with a tour of innovative housing projects in Highland Perthshire followed by the Conference Dinner at the Royal Dunkeld Hotel.

The Rural Housing Service conference is unique in the diversity of organisations it attracts. It provides a forum where people interested in rural housing from across sectors, tenures and across the country can come together to share ideas.

We have once again kept conference costs low - the day delegate rate for housing association members is £100 and we are offering a 10% discount for bookings received before the end of November. A booking form is available here.

A final programme will be available by the end of November
