A quick guide to Edinburgh's two star hotels - warts and all...

Two Star Hotels In Edinburgh

Two star hotels are getting more unfashionable and less profitable unless you are one of the big chains like Travellodge. Of the 150 Hotels In Edinburgh as opposed to the bed and breakfasts, only about 15 or ten percent are actually 2 star and they rarely get a good review! Don't stay in a 2 star for luxury or facilities but for the cheap lodgings and the late availability.

Top of the pile are the Travelodges in Shandwick Place and  St Mary's Street beside the Royal Mile. Of the two the latter is best for visitors as it is so close to the action but it is noisy (see Tripadvisor for the evidence) often at the weekend with stag parties. Also dead central is the Ibis Edinburgh City Centre which is 20 yards off the Royal Mile and suffers like others with noise problems (see Late Rooms reviews for details of customer experiences at the Ibis) Also central for tourist Edinburgh is the Grassmarket hotel in the Grassmarket (compare prices and read reviews)
