Abernethy Round Tower
off A913 in Abernethy town
Abernethy town, an extraordinaery building and one of only two surviving Irish style monastic towers in Scotland.
Built in 1000 AD as a place of refuge for the Celtic Christian community. Originally would have had a series of wooden floors reached by ladders, but can now be climbed by a spiral staircase to the top.
This one is in good condition and historically very interesting.
