Sights

Seven miles west of Crieff is the pleasant village of Comrie, which has the distinction of being the most earthquake-prone place in Britain due to its position on the Highland Boundary Fault. The world's first seismometer was set up here, in 1874, at the Earthquake House, which is at The Ross, about one mile west of the village, just off the A85. Apr-Oct daily. A great place for kids is the Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre, a few miles south of Comrie on the B827 on a windy hillside. It has a large collection of wild and exotic animals which you can feed and pet. All year daily 1000 till dusk.Tel. 679469.

Walks

A recommended walk from Comrie is to the Devil's Cauldron, a spectacular waterfall in Glen Lednock which extends six miles into the hills northwest of Comrie. It's a pleasant mile-long woodland walk to the waterfall, and from there you can climb up to Melville Monument, at the top of Dunmore Hill (840 ft), from where there are excellent views across Strathearn and the Ochil Hills. Five miles further west is the village of St Fillans, at the east end of Loch Earn. The A85 runs along the northern shore of the loch to Lochearnhead, where it continues northwest towards Crianlarich.
