Crianlarich
Guide to Crianlarich
Crianlarich is a small village in Highland Perthshire region of Scotland. The village's name is believed to derive from the Gaelic word meaning "the low pass", which relates to its geographical location between mountains to both West and East.
Crianlarich has been a crossroads for northern and westbound journeys in Scotland since medieval times as it was one of the few crossing points for traffice passing between the western and eastern highlands. This is still true today, as the major A82 and A85 roads meet there. The town bills itself "the gateway to the Highlands", sitting roughly half way along the West Highland Way.
Not a lot of places to stay here, though there is a popular hostel in Crianlarich that itinerant travellers enjoy
The village is not especially charming and tends to be bypassed by people on the way further North or travelling west towards Oban. sits on the River Fillan at the northwestern extent of the Trossachs, lying in the shadow of several Munro peaks, most famously Ben More, but also Stob Binnein and Cruach Ardrain.
