Although more renowned for it designer chic, the food halls at Harvey Nichols are equally good and exciting. Whilst you wouldn't shop here every week for your groceries, the chic packaging and the goodies from all over the world as well as some of the best producers from North of the Border. It is all quite expensive but if you are looking for a gift, this is a perfect location.

This fine vintners and victualers that leave you salivating and a few quid lighter. This is where you can buy the famed MacSween haggisand also a wide selction of wines. 199 Leith Walk, EH6 (554 0358) Huge chinese supermarket selling just about everything needed for a chinese meal as well as utensils and the many condiments. Open- Mon-Sun 10am-6pm

(L) Farmers Market

Castle terrace, Edinburgh. Telephone: 0131 652 5940. 40 stallholders gather from all across Scotland to sell some of the best produce in Scotland. Always busy, so arrrive early to avoid the queues. The produce is scrumptious and the stallholders passionate about what they grow and rear. The position facing the castle is one of the finest for any farmer's markets anywhere. If you are in self catering or serviced apartments, then come here to buy a really delicious dinner. 1st & 3rd Saturday of every month - 9am - 2pm.

(M) Real Foods organic food
