Glencoe is less than 2 hours from Glasgow or Edinburgh . GlenCoe is famous for the massacre of the MacDonalds in 1692. A monument to the fallen MacDonalds is situated in Glencoe Village in Upper Carnoch.
Ballachulish village is just off the A82, one mile from Glencoe village, The villages of Ballachulish and Glencoe are situated on the shores of Loch Leven. Glencoe’s history dates back to 350 million years when it was a volcanic crater measuring 5 miles (8 km) in diameter. These volcanic origins, later sculpted by ice and water, have resulted in the spectacular mountains which are a haven for walkers, climbers, mountaineers. Aonach Dubh (892 metres), is one of the “Three Sisters of Glencoe.
The wildlife in the area includes Otters, Red Deer, Pine Martens, Wild Goats, Minke Whales, Dolphins, Porpoises and Seals .Bird life includes the rare White Tailed Sea Eagle and Golden Eagles, together with Ravens. Great Northern and Black Throated Divers are often seen on the sea lochs along with Eider and numerous other species.
