Description  :Located in a scenic position overlooking the Black Isle and Cromarty Firth, the distillery was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, a merchant. It was acquired by the Mackenzie family in 1886, then Whyte and Mackay, who are now owned by American Brands. It was used as a factory to manufacture mines in World War I and was burned down, but rebuilt in 1922. The distillery has had eight stills since 1966, and uses water from the River Alness. It produces the Dalmore Single Highland Malt, which is a fresh, rich well-balanced whisky. Tours of the distillery are available by appointment only.
