Dornie

Dornie is a small fishing village nestles in the west highlands of Scotland. Our visitor guide to Dornie in the Scottish Highlands includes what to see and do and accommodation options.

Dornie  is situated on the east coast of Loch Long, where Loch Duich, Loch Log and Loch Alsh meet. Dornie was previously named after old Gaelic name Bun da loch which means “foot of two loch”, later it got the name Dornie from the Gaelic “an Doirnidh” meaning the pebbly place.

The place has beautiful surroundings and best suited for a walking trip. The famous romantic spot the Scottish Castles Elean Donan is located just half a mile from Dornie. This castle was built in 1220 for Alexander II as a defense against the Vikings. This castle now serves for arranging weeding ceremonies.

Dornie boasts few shops, pubs and some attractive hotels for visitors which provide all modern facilities and comfortable staying ambiance. Kyle of Lochalsh is 8 miles from here and is well connected via train and ferries.
