The largest of the East Neuk fishing villages, Anstruther does have an old fashioned air about it.

The Scottish Fisheries Museum chronicles the history of Scottish fishing and whaling with displays which include fine model ships inclusing the "Zulu" (a wooden sailing ship which dominated the Scottish herring industry).

Miles offshore from Anstruther, on the Isle of May, you can find the remains of Scotland's first lighthouse erected in 1636 as well as a lighthouse erected by Robert Louis Stevenson's gradfather way back in 1816.
