Appin is famous as the setting for Stevenson's Kidnapped which is a fictionalised account of the "Appin Murder" of 1752 when Colin Campbell was shot in the back by a disenfranchised MacDonald.

Murder aside, this is one of Argyll's prettiest spots overlooking Loch Linnhe with Lismore and the mountains of Mull and Morvern forming a backdrop.

Nearby is the picturesque Castle Stalker. Stop at the Castle Stalker Cafe (March-October daily) for the best views.
