Callander lies on the eastern edge of Trossachs, on the banks of the River Teith. Its locale is exactly on the chief tourist trail from Stirling to the West Highlands. It was during the "Scottish Enlightenment" period of  the 18th and 19th century that Callander grabbed the limelight with the gleaming reports of world-renowned poets Sir William Wordsworth and Walter Scott. Even today, Callander attracts a lot of tourists.

North of Callander, you can either walk or ride the six-mile Callander-Strathyre Cycleway. Another interesting place nearby is Balquhidder where visitors can find the grave of Rob Roy.
