Dunfermline has a history of serving as Scotland's capital till 1603. Built on a hill, Dunfermline is dominated by a ruined palace and the abbey.

The oldest part of the Dunfermline abbey dates back to the times of Queen Margaret. Though it was party demolished during the Wars of Independence, Robert the Bruce, helped rebuild it. He was also buried here. Near the entrance of the abbey is the pink-harled Abbot house.

The Pittencrieff Park, locally known as "the Glen" and bordering the palace is a green haven sprawling across the centre of Dunfermline. Southeast corner of the park you can spot Andrew Carnegie's Birthplace.
