Historic Edinburgh Hotels

Our selection of historic Edinburgh hotels and accommodation. We have selected them, either because the buildings are ancient or because there are historical associations with the location or buildings. They range from five star Scotsman to small guesthouses and the plain whimsical.

Selection of Historic Edinburgh Hotels

Barcelo Carlton Hotel Edinburgh

A large traditional hotel in a great location near the Royal Mile, and with leisure facilities which include a swimming pool.

Christopher North House Hotel Edinburgh

An wonderfully opulent boutique hotel in the new town.

The Howard Hotel Edinburgh

Traditional five star in the New Town with a somewhat staid quality but very traditional and also popular with international visitors. The way hotels used to be!

The Roxburghe Hotel

Located on Charlotte Square which is a superb Georgian Square. Hotel could do some with love but offers traditional service in a good way wrapped inside Georgian goodness.

The Scotsman

The Scotsman Hotel in Edinburgh provokes wildly differing responses from its guests: those who love it and its staff and those who find is tired and lacklustre. For some the Scotsman is the highlight of their trip with particular praise for the concierge who is all knowing about whats on in town. The Scotsman's central location makes it perfect for visitors who plan to browse through Edinburgh.

On the downside, some guests complain of noise from Waverley Station and the 06:50 train announcements as well as hot rooms with dodgy thermostats. Parts of the Scotsman could do with a bit of a makeover.
