If you want to take a look at an eighteenth-century planned town, this is where you should be. The town is a showcase of Scottish Georgian architecture which beautifully reflects in the still waters of Loch Fyne.
If you have a fascination for wood-panelled interiors, you can peek into the town's Neoclassical church. Towards the east of this church is a museum, which once served as the Inveraray Jail, and which recounts the prison conditions of medieval times. You can enjoy great views over the loch in the "Airing Yards" here.
A ten-minute walk, north of the distinctive main street will take you to the Inveraray Castle - the family home of the Duke of Argyll. The armoury hall here is impressive. If you are a marine enthusiast, check out the Artic Penguin, a triple masted schooner. The grounds are the venue of the Connect Music Festival, one of Scotland's "boutique festivals".
