Lewis constitutes a major chunk of the Outer Hebridean islands. It is also the most populous amongst them and its population adds up to two-thirds of the total population of the Outer Hebrides population.
The place boasts of many famous archaeological sites - the Neolithic 'Callanish Stones,'the Pictish Carloway Broch and the Norse mill house. The west coast of the Isle of Lewis has the most consistant surf in Europe.
For those who love adventure, the landscape of this island will be just perfect - with its sea cliffs which are perfect for abseiling and islands and bays which provide great opportunities for boating and kayaking.
Over 8000 people live in and around the island's main town - Stornoway. The Lews Castle grounds here is a widespread mixed woodlands planted way back in the 19th century. Seals fill the harbour area and once you are out into the water you can even catch sight of whales, dolphins and sharks.
