Kilmarnock is twelve miles from Ayr and is known mainly for being the home of Johnnie Walker whisky. One of the most handsome buildings in Killie is the Dick Institute and it hold both the town library and includes a couple of Pre-Raphaelite paintings.
To the north of Dick institute is the largest Burns monument in Scotland. Another place of interest is the Dean Castle and Country Park set in wooded acres with a mini farm, aviary and adventure playground. Housed inside the castle are Brussels tapestries and a collection of musical instruments.
