Lochearnhead is a comparatively large settlement sited at the western end of the Loch Earn, a Highland loch surrounded by mountains, at the western edge of Strathearn. The extensive tranquil area of Loch Earn has made it well-known for water sports, especially jet-skiing, water-skiing and powerboating. And if you get lucky, you can even see a float plane landing.

The village lies within the Breadalbane area of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. The place also hosts “Lochearnhead Shears”, an annual sheep shearing competition, said to be one among the largest in the United Kingdom. This competition which even sees international competitors attempting to win the “Scottish Blackface Shearing Champion” title is held in June and usually concludes with a ceilidh dance.
