Macmerry is a former mining village of East Lothian, lying 2 miles (3 km) east of Tranent, now bypassed by the A1 trunk road. Macmerry was the terminus of a branch of the railway which led to Dalkeith and Edinburgh between 1868 and 1960.

The Macmerry Industrial Estate lies separately to the east of the village, just to a mile (1.5 km) west of Gladsmuir.
