Stevenston town is named after Stephen Lockhart after he obtained the grant of land in c1191, owning the town and Kerelaw Castle. Kerlaw Castle is now in a state of decay and the ruins still have a couple of beautiful gothic windows to be admired.
There is a statue of Leslie Baillie who met Robert Burns and became the "Bonnie Leslie" of a few of his poems. Stevenston is on the sea-shore of Ayrshire not far from Irvine and has beaches and golf courses to be enjoyed.
