The Central North - The Empty Lands
These are the empty lands between Inverness and the North Coast. Once inhabited by farmers who were cleared off the land by factors and estate owners (see Highland Clearances). Today, the population still remains low and the landscape barren, a quilt of heather moors and granite mountains. More than any other this is a tragic land and it is the peoples from here that left first for the coast and then for Canada, America and further. Empty, atmospheric villages whisper their haunting tale.
