Kinlochleven lies seven miles east of Glencoe on the eastern end of Loch Leven. Kinlochleven is on the main West Highland Way route, 97 miles from Glasgow to Fort William.

Kinlochleven lies seven miles east of Glencoe on the eastern end of Loch Leven. Kinlochleven is on the main West Highland Way route, 97 miles from Glasgow to Fort William.There were only two small settlements on either side of the River Loch. In 1904 The British Aluminium company was set up here and the Blackwater reservoir was built on Rannoch Moor to generate the power needed for the industry. The aluminium factory stopped production in 2000 and Kinlochleven today is more focused on tourism.

The Atlas Brewery began operations in the aluminium smelter and is open to visitors and guided tours. Its high quality beers can be tasted in all the local pubs. The Ice Factor built at a cost of over 2.5million pounds includes the world’s largest artificial ice climbing wall besides other facilities. Besides being close to Glen Coe Kinlochleven stand at the foothills of the Mamore Hills which makes it popular with Munro baggers. Fort Williams is a day’s walk away.

The village also has a wide range of stores to visit, a few local pubs to relax in and many good restaurants.There are beautiful nature walks to enjoy, mountain biking, fishing, various water sports or relaxing boat excursions on the loch. There is a golf club in Fort William. The Nevis Mountain Range and the Glencoe Mountain is ideal for snowboarding and skiing.
