Loch Lomond Walking Tours and Holidays. Day walks and longer breaks in Scotland's first National park.
With our famous landscapes what better way to experience the Scottish landscape than a day's walking tour. Within easy reach of Glasgow & Edinburgh Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park presents us with one of the countries most beautiful, romantic and varied landscapes. Within easy reach from bustling city life we can enter the lush and peaceful nature of the Park.
Discovery & adventure Walking is also about discovering which is why we choose routes which introduce visitors to very special places in the area, routes with ever changing views across spectacular landscapes, peaks and glens - romantic paths off the beaten track which take us to long forgotten places of ancient ruined settlements and old trails used by cattle drovers in days gone by!
Wildlife, history & nature On the way, you can find out as much as you would like about wildlife, history and nature, about wild goats with spectacular horns, stories of local clans and their warfare or the story behind the coppiced oak forests along the shores of Loch Lomond and the people who lived in these forests not so long ago.
Generally, a day includes about 2-4 hours walking, a relaxing lunch and a delicious picnic and, because water is so much part of the scenery, a boat ride along the way and sometimes even a little island exploration (on Loch Lomond).
We offer a minibus pick up service from various desired points around Drymen and Balloch (free) and at a little extra cost, also from further afield like Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Sundays - Loch Lomond's Hills and Islands A gentle elevation with ever changing views over the hills and a first sense of the wide, expansive landscapes Scotland has to offer. The peak of Conic Hill marks a spectacular geological fault line and offers panoramic views as far as the coast, the Isle of Arran and the Highland mountains.
After picnic lunch we take a short boat ride from Balmaha across to the romantic island of Inchcailloch where we walk its magic woods and come across ancient history of local clans and hermit saints - and the most wonderful views over the loch.
Mondays - The Trossachs and Loch Katrine The Trossachs forests were the home of Scotland's famous Rob Roy who roamed the area to steel of the rich and provide for the poor. Loch Katrine provided the romantic backdrop to Sir Walter Scott's legendary stories.
The day begins with a drive through this beautiful area to Loch Katrine where you board the 19th century steamship" Sir Walter Scott" to sail across this very picturesque loch to Stronachlachar. Here we walk the hills of the Loch Ard Forest with open views over Loch Katrine and across to the west as far as the Arrochar Alps.
If time permits we visit Loch Lomond at Inversnaid and take a short walk along the shore and the famous West Highland Way.
Tuesdays - Arrochar Alps, Inveraray and Luss Loch Lomond - we drive along the high road and the bonny banks of this largest of freshwater stretches in Britian enjoying wide views across to the grandiose heights of Ben Lomond, the most southerly of the 'Munroes'.
Tarbert - here we walk up a track which links Loch Lomond with Loch Long and covers the route the Vikings once took to pull their longboats across from the sea loch to explore and raid Loch Lomond! Beautiful views!
Inveraray - the scenic drive along the shores of Loch Long, the moutainous pass of 'Rest and be Thankful' and the banks of Loch Fyne famous for its oysters is a revelation of the inaccessible and mountainous terrain typical of the Highlands.
The magnificent 18th century castle of the Duke of Argyll is a masterpiece of Scottish Georgian Architecture which is splendidly furnished and contains an interesting selection of trophies and memorabilia.
Wednesdays - Ben A'an This ancient mini volcano offers surprising and stunning views, it is a good fun climb and an excellent introduction to the geography of the area.
Thursdays - Stirling Castle, Lake of Menteith and Trossachs
Stirling Castle - a stunning location where some of the most dramatic developments in Scottish history took place: the famous and triumphant battles of William Wallace 'Braveheart' and Robert the Bruce and the coronation of Mary Queen of Scots.
Lake of Menteith - one of the most beautiful island monasteries lies from its shore. We take a little ferry to Inchmahome where you can explore the romantic ruin of the Augustine Abbey and discover a few surprises.
Aberfoyle Forest - a relatively modest walk takes us along the Highland fault line offering superb views of both the lowlands and the panoramic peaks of the Highlands.
Fridays - Waterfalls, Oak Woods and Beaches in Glen Falloch This walk takes us to the far north end of Loch Lomond where it becomes very narrow but its depth increases to an impressive 200m.
You benefit from a drive along the complete length of its western shore and you have the opportunity to enjoy a pint or a wee dram in one of Scotland's oldest and most popular pubs, the Drover Inn. Here the sight of a Highlander dressed in a kilt is guaranteed!
The walk takes us past the great Ben Glass waterfall to the hills of Glen Falloch into wild country along the West Highland Way. The elevation is steady but gentle and provides surprising views particularly when Loch Lomond appears like a discovery. The path takes us to the shore of the loch and here we signal the ferryman who is to rescue us back to civilization.
Luss - a short stop in this picturesque village on the banks of Loch Lomond to take in the afternoon views across the water.
