Alloa Tower

Scotland's largest surviving Keep in Scotland dating back to 14th century. Very interesting and lots of places to run around with the kids.

The Highlights

  • Indoor, Disabled Access
  • Baby Changing, Parking

Fully restored and furnished to a historic standard, the tower contains a unique collection of family portraits and silver on loan from the present Earl of Mar and Kellie.

On the ground floor, visitors will find a DVD presentation that tells the story of the tower’s restoration.

This is a real walk through some 700 years of Scottish history as you walk through the many rooms and dungeon. You will hear stories of an abbot’s curse, crib ghosts, fortunes and titles lost and regained, and the building’s ruin and final restoration. It is now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland.

There are regular activities that the children can join in with including brass rubbing, colouring in and dressing up in period costumes.
