Corgarff Castle

A 16th Century tower house converted into a barracks for Government troops in 1748.

Still complete and with its 18th Century star-shaped fortification, its last military use was to control the smuggling of illicit whiskey between 1827 and 1831.

The west pavilion, housing the bakehouse and brewhouse, is accessible to visitors using wheelchairs or with limited mobility. There is no suitable access to the main tower, but Corgarff is situated amid stunning scenery offering excellent views.

Visitors with disabilities can be set down nearer the castle by prior arrangement. Strong footwear recommended.
