A very well appointed semi-detached, fishing lodge close to the banks of the River Esk in the peaceful steading of Balmaleedie on the Aberdeenshire/Angus border. This spacious house has a touch of luxury with its open plan, well equipped kitchen, bedrooms and very comfortable living room with wood burner, perfect for cosying up to after a day out. Ideal for nature lovers, fishermen and ramblers, there is a lovely enclosed patio and terrace surrounding the house and leisurely walks along the river, where you may be rewarded with the sight of an otter or fish jumping, fishing is available by arrangement with the owner, which is seasonal and when available, and must be booked in advance. The village of Marykirk is within an easy walk and has a good pub with a beer garden serving food for days when you don’t feel like cooking, and there is a delightful bistro and farm shop about a mile away at Balmakewan.

The house is ideally placed for touring, the area has a wealth of attractions from sandy beaches to the 5 Angus Glens, a challenge for any serious walker or for just enjoying the magnificent scenery. Marykirk is within a short drive of both Laurencekirk and Montrose, both with good amenities. Montrose sits on the edge of a virtually landlocked 2-mile square lagoon, known as ‘The Basin’, a nature reserve and haven for wildfowl and wading birds. At certain times of the year visitors can watch the fantastic spectacle of the pink footed geese taking off from their roosting area in the early morning. Fettercairn is a gateway to Royal Deeside, take the road to Banchory over Cairn o’ Mount where a magnificent vista of the Mearns can be seen from the viewing point. Whether you want to sit back and relax or get active there is something for everyone in this wonderful area of Scotland. Beach 5 miles. Shop 8 miles, pub ½ mile and restaurant 1½ miles.
