Description  :Founded in the face of opposition from illicit whisky makers and smugglers, Glenlivet Distillery was founded by George Smith, a tenant of the Duke of Gordon, in 1824 at Upper Drummin Farm. The old distillery was destroyed by fire, and the plant was moved to Minore in 1858. It uses water from Josie's Well. The Glenlivet was amalgamated with J & J Grant in 1953, and has been owned by Seagrams since 1977. The Glenlivet 12-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a light, smooth whisky with a delicately sweet flavour, and there is also an 18-Year-Old. The tour of distillery includes whisky production facilities and bonded warehouses, and features an audio-visual programme and interactive exhibition. The admission includes a voucher redeemable against the purchase of a 70cl bottle of whisky in the distillery shop, entry to exhibition, guided tour of distillery and free dram of whisky.
