"Breathtaking views over the Sound of Seil"

In a magnificent setting by the sea, Ardmaddy Castle sits in its own bay with unrivalled views over Seil Sound and the world famous local islands, designated one of Scotland’s National Scenic Areas. Graded ‘4 Star’ by the Scottish Tourist Board, these four cottages (SBZ, SRW, SRX and SRY) and Caddleton Farmhouse (UNP) are set in secluded, peaceful locations around the estate and offer an ideal base for exploring this stunning part of the West Coast of Scotland.
The castle’s spectacular gardens are open all year round through Scotland’s Gardens Scheme and are a delight for gardening enthusiasts. The area is renowned for its abundant wildlife with porpoise, dolphins, basking sharks, otters, deer, eagles and wealth of seabirds often seen. Sailing, rowing and motor boats are all available for guests to hire, and there is free fishing on Ardmaddy’s stocked hill loch. There is also a central games room with table tennis, darts and a pool table, whilst Caddleton Farmhouse (UNP) and The Stables have their own games room. Guests can also use the castle’s tennis court.
The bustling harbour town of Oban known as the ‘Gateway to the Islands’ is only 12 miles away and has wonderful seafood restaurants, shops and bars. From Oban there are boat trips to the Inner Hebridean Isles, including Mull, Iona, Staffa, Colonsay and Tiree. For the outdoor enthusiast, local activities include horseriding, coasteering, canyoning, canoeing, sailing, diving and golf. Fort William and Glencoe are a short drive away offering very popular climbing and skiing. Explore beautiful gardens and ruined castles in an area rich in historical legacy or take a leisurely walk or cycle along one of the many forest tracks. Visit Bonawe Iron Works, Cruachan Hollow Mountain, the Sealife Centre and Inveraray Jail. Or relax and enjoy the unspoilt natural beauty surrounding the cottages at Ardmaddy. Shops 12 miles, pub/restaurant 2½ miles.

Customer Reviews of Craiguillean, Ardmaddy Castle - Sleeps 6-9

1st comment: The location of the cottage was perfect for us although you do need a car to get out and about...without transport this location is not suitable. The cottage was warm and inviting and the equipment was excellent, we did not have to bring anything with us, it was home from home. We even had tea and biscuits on arrival which was lovely as I was ready for a cup of tea. Highly recommend this cottage. May 2012.

2nd comment: Craiguillean is fantastically located for a fun-filled family holiday, and it is kept in top condition. Having stayed in tens of Country Cottages over the years across Britain, this is one of the best. A short, too short, but very enjoyable break. For reference, our four children are between five and thirteen. Oct 2011.

3rd comment: Wonderful location right on waterfront. Great estate for older kids to go and explore. Oban about 25 mins away, but well stocked local shop is about 4 miles away in Balvicar. Boat hire and fishing available from owners. Oct 2011.

4th comment: Craiguillean is a secluded and peaceful property equipped to the highest standards with a lovely view and operated by a most helpful and pleasant owner within a beautiful highland estate. June 2008.

5th comment: Location fantastic. Peace and quiet; just what we wanted. March 2008.

6th comment: The location of the cottage, right on the loch shore was fantastic and the views from the cottage were lovely. The children loved rock pooling and beach combing, and having a boat to pop across the loch to get bread and milk or go and explore islands further afield. April 2008.

7th comment: A magical place in a magical location. July 2006.
