Description  :Near the ruins of Dunyvaig Castle, ancient stronghold of the Lords of the Isles, Lagavulin (pronounced OLagga-voolin') Distillery, was established in 1816 by John Johnson. Production from here goes to the White Horse blend. The water used is from the Solum Lochs. The distillery is now owned by United Distillers and Vintners, and also produces a distinctive malt whisky, which is very peaty and full bodied with a hint of ozone. Tours and tastings can be taken by appointment, and the adult charge includes a discount voucher redeemable at the distillery against a 70cl bottle of malt whisky. Tours are by appointment only; please telephone in advance.
