"Breathtaking views over the Sound of Seil"

In a magnificent setting by the sea, Ardmaddy Castle sits in its own bay with unrivalled views over Seil Sound and the world famous local islands, designated one of Scotland’s National Scenic Areas. Graded ‘4 Star’ by the Scottish Tourist Board, these four cottages (SBZ, SRW, SRX and SRY) and Caddleton Farmhouse (UNP) are set in secluded, peaceful locations around the estate and offer an ideal base for exploring this stunning part of the West Coast of Scotland.
The castle’s spectacular gardens are open all year round through Scotland’s Gardens Scheme and are a delight for gardening enthusiasts. The area is renowned for its abundant wildlife with porpoise, dolphins, basking sharks, otters, deer, eagles and wealth of seabirds often seen. Sailing, rowing and motor boats are all available for guests to hire, and there is free fishing on Ardmaddy’s stocked hill loch. There is also a central games room with table tennis, darts and a pool table, whilst Caddleton Farmhouse (UNP) and The Stables have their own games room. Guests can also use the castle’s tennis court.
The bustling harbour town of Oban known as the ‘Gateway to the Islands’ is only 12 miles away and has wonderful seafood restaurants, shops and bars. From Oban there are boat trips to the Inner Hebridean Isles, including Mull, Iona, Staffa, Colonsay and Tiree. For the outdoor enthusiast, local activities include horseriding, coasteering, canyoning, canoeing, sailing, diving and golf. Fort William and Glencoe are a short drive away offering very popular climbing and skiing. Explore beautiful gardens and ruined castles in an area rich in historical legacy or take a leisurely walk or cycle along one of the many forest tracks. Visit Bonawe Iron Works, Cruachan Hollow Mountain, the Sealife Centre and Inveraray Jail. Or relax and enjoy the unspoilt natural beauty surrounding the cottages at Ardmaddy. Shops 12 miles, pub/restaurant 2½ miles.

Customer Reviews of Caddleton Farmhouse, nr Oban - sleeps 10-12

1st comment: The property is fantastic and it is HUGE!! Way, way above our expectations. There were 8 of us (age 3 to 50) and because the weather was so glorious the main sitting room was rarely used. The men in the party loved the games room, the dog loved the huge garden, and the children loved wandering down to the loch to collect shells. April 2012.

2nd comment: Very large and well equipped house in wonderful location close to the shore of the loch. Excellent for large groups. Aug 2011.

3rd comment: A homely welcome was offered in what was a superbly equipped and deceptively spacious property in a wonderfully pretty and private location. For us, as a party of ten who were doing a lot of eating and drinking, the property was more than adequately fitted out with refrigeration, storage, utensils and has a four oven Aga which was a joy to cook on. Every room boasts fantastic views and there are essentially three large public rooms so the house provides an awful lot of space for a "cottage" environment. Highly recommended. April 2011.

4th comment: The property is remote, quiet and calm, away for every day hustle and bustle. Oct 2010.

5th comment: Stunning location with excellent scenery and surroundings. Sept 2010.

6th comment: It was very comfortable, well equipped and with fantastic views. Sept 2010.

7th comment: Very well equipped with everything we needed (and more!). Lots of entertainment, games room, games, and plenty of space to entertain. Lots of bathrooms with powerful water pressure and lots of hot water. Aug 2010.

8th comment: Very commodious, with every comfort and detail for a successful family holiday. The games room was much-used, and the space meant that everyone could find a quiet corner when necessary. Aug 2010.
