Bellhaven Brewery

Britain's oldest brewery and open for tours (prebooked).Near Edinburgh in Dunbar.

The Belhaven Brewery Tour offers an excellent opportunity to visit a working brewery which is steeped in history. Visitors can experience a sense of history as well as an understanding of how the fine Belhaven beers are brewed and packaged. The fully guided tour ends up with a sampling session in our own in-house bar, The Monks Retreat.

Bellhaven has been operating since something like 1719 but they may have been brewing here since the 1550s From 1719 the brewery started commercial production and over the next 200 years managed to thrive despite changes that ruined many local breweries. In the C19th cnetury they started producing beers that were denominated in shillings to evidence their strength. One of their finest beers continues to be the strong 80/- which you can find in pubs all around Scotland.

Today Bellhaven is part of the larger Greene King company.
