Café Cosmo 12 Rose St. Part of the Glasgow Film Theatre (see 'Entertainment') and definitely worth knowing about, even if you're not a movie buff. It's a great cheap lunch venue, especially for vegetarians. Open daily 1200-2100.

Costa Royal Exchange Square. Part of the reputable chain which has several other outlets in the city. Good quality coffee and a good range of snacks, salads and meals. Open daily 0800 till late.

The Doocot Café and Bar The Lighthouse, 11 Mitchell Lane, Tel: 2211821. There's a 1950s retro look at this café on the top of the Lighthouse (see sights). Stop for soups, sandwiches and light meals before immersing yourself in the world of architecture.

Miss Cranston's Tearooms 33 Gordon St Tel: 2041122. You could miss this traditionally run tea-shop as it's hidden above a baker's shop. This is the place to come for a full blown afternoon tea with sandwiches, scones, cakes and gallons of tea.

Willow Tea Rooms 217 Sauchiehall St, Tel: 3320521. A recreation of the original Miss Cranston's Tearooms, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and filled with many of his original features. Most visitors come here for the interior design, but they also offer a good selection of reasonably-priced teas, sandwiches, cakes and scones, as well as hot meals. There's also a sister branch at 97 Buchanan St (Tel: 2045242), which is licensed. No smoking area. Open Mon-Sat 0930-1630; Sun 1200-1615.
