Cupar is the capital of Fife. At the centre of Cupar's main street is the Mercat Cross which now consists of recouped sections of the 17-th century original after its destruction by a wayward lorry few years ago.
The main attraction of the place and one that is worth visiting is the Hill of Tarvit, a remodelled Edwardian mansion. The house contains a notable collection of Dutch paintings, Chippendale and French furniture, a restored Edwardian laundry and Chinese porcelain. On the estate is a 16th century Scotstarvit Tower, a fine example of a Scots tower house
