Surrounded by acres of unspoilt woodland and stunning country views - a beautiful base for exploring the Highlands...

Nestling in the stunning scenery of Glen Urquhart within 20 acres of unspoilt woodland, these lovely detached properties (SGGJ - SGGM) enjoy views across open countryside towards the surrounding hills. Individually set in approximately 1 acre of gardens and grounds, each holiday property enjoys a quiet and secluded location in this lovely part of the Highlands. Steeped in history and legend, Glen Urquhart has something to offer in every season of the year. Nearby are the ruins of Urquhart Castle, spectacularly set right on the shores of Loch Ness. Drumnadrochit is only 6 miles and offers a variety of village amenities which include the Loch Ness Monster Exhibition Centre where the history of Nessie can be enjoyed. Inverness, the Highland Capital, is only 20 miles.
The area is renowned for the abundance of wildlife with deer, red kites, buzzards and pine martens regularly seen. Glen Affric, a National Nature Reserve, is an ideal place to admire breathtaking scenery, spot rare wildlife and walk through the majestic mountains. It also contains one of Scotland’s largest ancient Caledonian pinewoods. This is a fabulous area for mountain biking on one of the many forest trails, as well as walking with the start of the Great Glen Way just a few miles away. An excellent base for touring the north and west Highlands. Take a trip to the Isle of Skye and on the way there visit the beautiful, romantic Eilean Donan Castle at Dornie, then travel over the stunning mountain road of Mam Ratagan to the scenic village of Glenelg where a short ferry trip can be taken (summer operation) to this unforgettable Isle.
Travel to the Moray Coast where this dramatic coastline boasts unspoilt beaches and possible sightings of the famous bottlenose dolphins frolicking in the waters of the Firth. A visit inland takes in some of the many distilleries of the Whisky Trail where visitors may wish to sample the ‘Water of Life’ or take the Castle Trail to explore and learn of the fascinating history of some of Scotland’s oldest buildings. Further north, the rugged coastline of Sutherland and Caithness is waiting to be explored, or guests can wander over some of the few remaining unspoilt moorlands in the UK. A day trip to the Orkney Islands is highly recommended with a large variety of archeological sites and wonderful local seafood in the restaurants and pubs. In all, Bearnock Country Cottages make a super base for touring this wonderful part of the Highlands. Shop 50 yds, pub ½ mile.
