Glasgow Festivals

Glasgow doesn't like to be overshadowed by Edinburgh, and has a few notable festivals of its own.

Things kick off in the last 2 weeks of Jan with the Celtic Connections music festival, featuring artists form around the world. It is held in the Royal Concert Hall (Tel: 3538000).

The city's biggest festival is the West End Festival, 2 weeks of music, theatre and various free events held over 2 weeks in Jun (Tel: 3410844). Other festivals include the RSNO Proms, at the Royal Concert Hall in Jun, the Glasgow International Jazz Festival (Tel: 5523552) in Jul, and the World Pipe Band Championships (Tel: 2215414) which are held on Glasgow Green in mid-Aug.

Glasgay is Britain's largest lesbian and gay arts festival held in various venues from late Oct to early Nov. Tel: 3347129. For further information, contact Glasgow City Council's events department (Tel: 2872000).

Whisky Live

This hidden cobbled street in Glasgow will soring up to life and fun in this all dayer of live bands, open studios, fashion shows, BBQ-ing, market and food stalls and art installations. Hidden Lane Festival is a sure way to attract attention to this otherwise obscure street.


LesFest is Scotland's only annual rock and metal festival. It is held near the village of Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, which is Ten minutes from junction 7/8 off the M74 Motorway.

Tarbert Seafood Festival

The annual Tarbert Seafood Festival will be held on the weekend of 5th and 6th July 2014 featuring the customary attractions like family entertainment, cookery demonstrations and outdoor market along with a selection of live music and more.

Glasgow Merchant City Festival

This festival is a great chance to sample some fine food and drink. Last year saw international markets taking to the streets of the Merchant City with a number of restaurants in the area running special menus and deals.

East Renfrewshire Food Festival

East Renfrewshire sees a celebration of Scottish food and drink involving cooking demonstrations by well known chefs from across the region, promotions of local produce and much more throughout the week.

World Pipe Band Championships

 The most prestigious event in the pipe band calendar, attracting some 200 bands from around the world. To be held at Greendyke Street, Glasgow . Open 9.00am - 7.00pm
