The Niblick Tea Room and Bistro,

After the rigours of a round on last year's Open Championship course at Carnoustie - or Car-nasty as it has been dubbed by a few traumatised players - the Niblick Tea Room is just the place to remember how pleasant golf can be.

Located just a few hundred yards from the links course, The Niblick in Queen Street is a tribute to the obsessive grip of golf. The walls are bedecked in golfing photographs, antique golf clubs and newspaper cuttings of golfers and golfing tournaments.

Even the menu takes diners on a trip round the greens and fairways with sections dubbed Chip Shots, On the Green and Hot Putts.

Baked potatoes (priced between 1.65 and 2.80) become Bunkers while rolls, baguettes and croissants are all Sand Wedges ranging in price from 1.25 for cheese and onion to 1.40 for a smoked ham salad.

On The Tee is where you'll be if you want a starter, side orders and extra portions of anything from chips to salad are deemed Over Par while the pancakes, scones and teacakes which make up the dessert menu are all Out Of Bounds.

As well as the wide range of burgers, sandwiches, hot rolls, omelettes and all day Breakfasts (Day Tickets) available during the day, The Niblick also offers evening meals and high teas.

The high tea menu includes traditional favourites such as lasagne, steak pie, fish and chips, roast chicken and macaroni cheese. All come in generous portions with vegetables, chips or potatoes and salad.

If you make it to the next round there is a mouthwatering array of cream cakes, iced buns and scones to choose from. And if that doesn't drive customers through the doors the prices might. The high teas can be had for around a fiver.
