Bo'ness or Borrowstounness is a town in the Falkirk council area of Scotland. This town boasts many historic sites in it.  It is located on a hillside on the south bank of the Firth of Forth. Up to 1975 it was in the former county of West Lothian.
The visitors can see historical places which have a deep link with the Roman period in Bo'ness. During the Roman period the town was in the eastern end of the Antonine Wall. The end of the wall probably lay in modern Carriden, the eastern part of the town, where Roman inscriptions have been found. A fort named Veluniate is said to exist in the premises of this town. Other Roman sites have been identified at Muirhouses and Kinglass located on the south-east side of the town.
Earlier the Bo'ness town was a centre of heavy industry and a major port now is known as a commuter town as most of the residents travelling to work in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Other source of income is the petrochemical industry located nearby. There are many tourist attractions available in Bo’ness, including Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway, the Birkhill Clay Mine, Kinneil House that is built by the powerful Hamilton family in the 15th century that is situated on the west edge of the town. In the grounds are cottages where James Watt lived and did his research for his invention.
Bo'ness has a single secondary school, Bo'ness Academy, and five primary schools, from west to east, Deanburn, Kinneil, Bo'ness Public School, St Mary's, and the Grange School. There are a number of churches, including Bo'ness Old Kirk, Carriden, St Andrew's Parish Church, Craigmailen UFC, St. Catharine's Episcopal Church, Bo'ness Apostolic Church, Bo'ness Baptist Church, The Bo'ness Salvation Army and St. Mary's RC, a modernist design of 1962 by Gillespie, Kidd & Coia.
Bo'ness is undergoing rapid development as the harbour based investment is in a full-fledged manner. The town centre is set for a revamp through the THI (Townscape Heritage Initiative) with the funding of National Lottery Heritage Fund, Falkirk Council, and Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley together with Euro funding. The plans are boosted by the National Economic Foundation which listed Bo'ness in third place in a ‘top-10’ of towns which had managed to retain their individual character. The Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire and Peebles in the Scottish Borders were ahead of Bo'ness in the table.
