Turnberry

Turnberry is situated on the spectacular Ayrshire coastline which provides endless pastime opportunities from beach picnics to sea angling from island hopping boat trips to watersports. It is also the home of some of the finest historical sites. It was the birthplace of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland and the ruins of his castle are of tourist interest.


Modern day Turnberry is famous for its golf links. "The Westin Turnberry Resort" in Turnberry is a commercial operation, which is open to the public. The three golf courses here are: The Ailsa Course, The Kintyre Course and The Arran Course.

Other important attractions in and around Turnberry are: The granite island of Ailsa Craig which is ten miles offshore in the Firth of Clyde. The island is home to 40,000 gannets.

Culzean Castle stands on the cliffs looking out towards Arran and Ailsa Craig. The Castle was built by Robert Adam in the 18th century .
