Customer Review

Rooms are spacious, immaculate and modern. Beds really comfortable, not too soft or too hard. Loved the bathroom/shower with heated floor. Great for the time of year we went.
The bar is the more relaxed and serves great quality bar meals and snacks. Drinks not too expensive either. The more formal dining area lacks atmosphere but more than makes up for that with the standard of food. Very impressive selection, fresh and original dishes served by attentive, well presented staff.
The reception is the main thing that lets this hotel down. Staff here is very snooty and downright rude. There is nothing worse than a sour faced huffing puffing receptionist and sadly this hotel had more than one of them.
The hotel has a distinct American feel to it which is a bit unusual when you expect it to be more traditionally Scottish. Also did not encounter one Scottish member of staff which I would have thought foreign guests may expect.
Overall, an incredibly enjoyable stay and would definitely return. One tip, if you require spa treatments definitely book in advance. We arrived Fri pm and nothing was available until Sunday evening when we were leaving, which was a pity as the spa and pool area is quite good. Recommended more for couples, business (and golf obviously!) rather than families.

Customer Review

We booked a 2 night stay at Prestonfield in January as a getaway weekend. The hotel and grounds were lovely. The staff were very attentive and not obtrusive at all. We loved it so much we spent all our time there and only popped into Edinburgh for a few hours (we have done the tourist Edinburgh thing previously). If you want a romantic luxury weekend away with your partner then this place is perfect. If you're on business, plan on doing a lot of touristy things in Edinburgh or you want a big bland hotel you might be better off staying in town. We will most definitely return to Prestonfield.

Customer Review

Just returned from a two night stay at Dalhousie Castle which was the venue for our Son's wedding. We had a perfect day both with our stay at the castle and the weather. All the Staff was friendly and attentive to our needs, we had five lively children with us the eldest being eight and they were allowed to explore the castle and enjoyed running round the extensive grounds.
The Piper piped all the guests into the chapel and while we waited, he collected the Bride and Bridesmaids from the Honeymoon Suite; we could just hear the pipes in the distance which increased in sound as they neared the chapel. We had the rings flown in by Owl which had apparently appeared in one of the Harry Potter films. All in all a perfect day. Yes it is expensive but, for the unique setting, it was worth it.

Stayed here for the Edinburgh festival and thought that it was great. Great work guys!

Hotels in Aberdeen

Many people wonder what the difference between a guesthouse and a bed & breakfast really is. This is our definition for a bed and breakfast: a private home that offers a bed for the night and breakfast in the morning at one cost. This is offered to "transient" visitors and has less than 10 bedrooms.

Bed & breakfast accommodation can vary between the absolutely excellent to the mediocre and pretty dire. Many people swear by B&Bs as it offers the opportunity to meet local people, get local advice about Aberdeen over the breakfast table and a price which is usually lower than hotels or guesthouse accommodation in Aberdeen.

Benefits: Small, informal, run by locals, budget, fun
Drawbacks: less flexible than larger properties (they have a life as well). Quality can vary.

We also have a range of guesthouses and hotels available across Scotland as well as our Visitor Guide to Scotland. If you are looking for things to do, you might to visit the Calendar of things to do in Scotland or our Ideas and Inspirations section. We can also help with car hire and trains and ferries.
