Shieldaig

Small pretty whitewashed village on the coast north of Applecross Peninsula on Loch Askaig with wonderful views across to Torridon Mountains.

The village was originally founded to train seamen in the fight against Napoleon, but after hsi defeat  it became a fishing village. The viking name means loch of the herrings which can still be caught in quantity in season. The village is now only 85 strong all year with a pub and school.

In the summer, the population grows with visitng attracted to the nearby Torridon Hills and the Applecross peninsula.
