Sanquhar Castle

Ruined mediaeval castle near Sanquhar in Dumfries & Galloway. Walk up to view.


Built by the Crichton  family in the 13th century. It was entirely ruinous until th mid 19th century when a restoration was attempted in the Victorian style. ONly a limited amount of work was completed although you can see evidence in the tower. There is some fencing around the structure as it is fragile and dangerous.
